Resources and Infrastructure There are a lot of reasons Ohio, and Lorain County have been the cornerstone of the United States. They have played the pivotal role in the manufacturing of the materials, both human and physical, used in the building of our country politically, socially, and materially.

Lorain County is located in the northeastern part of the state of Ohio. As of the 2020 census, the population was 312,964. Its county seat is the City of Elyria, and its’ largest city is Lorain. The county was physically established in 1822, becoming judicially independent in 1824.Lorain County is part of the Cleveland-Elyria, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has an area of 923 square miles, of which 491 square miles is land and 432 square miles (47%) is water (water area includes Lake Erie to Canadian Border). It is Ohio's fourth-largest county by area.
