Camden Township
Camden Township was named after Camden, New York, the native home of a land agent. As of the 2020 census, the population was 1,508.
Camden first settler was Leonard Clark in 1829, he brough his family and father-in-law Moses Pike.
The village of Kipton is located in northern Camden Township. TIt's population was 209 at the 2020 census. I have included photographs of Kipton on this page.
Kipton was platted around 1852 by Wm.W.Whitney in anticipation of a new railroad route being laid out through his farm. He initially named his new village "Binghamton", in honor of his former home of Binghamton, NY. However, the name "Camden Station" would instead be used until 1862, when its name was changed to "Kipton Station" (and later becoming known simply as 'Kipton').
Kipton was the site of a famous train wreck on April 18, 1891, which was caused by railroad engineers' watches not being in sync; and led to the adoption of stringent quality-control standards for railroad chronometers in 1893.
