Energy

Where does the power for our homes and devices come from? It is complex. Thanks to the power of the computer, the internet, and the State of Ohio we can enter into a number of business relationships ourselves as far providers of gas and electricity.Gas Link and Electric Link  However, the means of transmission and billing are still local companies. It is Ohio Edison that bills me and owns the electric lines that run into my house. However, Energy Harbor which operates Beaver Valley Power Station a nuclear power plant near Shippingport, Pennsylvania, is my energy provider.

I chose Energy Harbor for three reason: I covered the of the world's first full-scale atomic electric power plant devoted exclusively to peacetime uses in Shippingport, Pennsylvania. I was invited in as a reporter to witness the construction of one of Beaver Valley’s nuclear reactors. But most importantly I was able to lock my rate in for 4 years with no penalty for cancellation.

Today there are a great many unique options available. However, some providers are the only options such as Oberlin Public Power, Rural Electric Cooperative.
